Tanya Roberts

On 26th February 2020, the 20 winners of the HTC Illustration Competition were treated to a workshop in the LRC with Scottish illustrator, Tanya Roberts.

Tanya visited 10 N.I. schools, as part of a tour organised by the Scottish Book Trust and financed by the Scottish Friendly Building Society. HTC was very lucky to have been successful with our application.

Tanya is a comic book and graphic novel artist, who has worked on such titles as Star Wars, How to Train Your Dragon and Toy Story.

She has also published some books of her own, including Abeyance and Plagued.

During the workshop Tanya gave the participants useful tips on illustration and character design, demonstrating as she talked. There were lots of great suggestions when she challenged the audience to call out the names of characters which she then proceeded to draw.

The audience were then given the chance to draw their own characters and Tanya was very impressed with their work.

Every pupil was given a copy of one of Tanya’s books, which they were able to get inscribed with one of her unique illustrations.

Some lucky people were also able to take home the character sketches drawn by Tanya during the workshop.

A great afternoon for 20 budding illustrators!
