Week 38

Week 38 – Friday 17th June 2022

Hi there!

Well the rain stopped eventually this morning and a great sports day was had by all. Many existing time records were broken across all events, so huge congratulations to everyone who participated and those who were eventual winners. Thanks as always to Mr Mc Keever, the PE Department and all staff for another TEAM effort at its best! The Ice Cream Van was a real treat!

It was also a very productive week with the internal Summer Exams for Years 8 – 11. It is difficult sitting so many exams one after the other, but I have to congratulate every pupil. They worked extremely hard and their application and behaviour was exemplary – well done everyone!. We are very proud of you all and the preparation and studying before hand will be well rewarded. A huge thanks to all staff, in particular, the Heads of Year - Mrs Monaghan, Mrs Hyndman, Mr Mc Gartland and Mrs Lagan, for the very efficient running of Exam week – the organisation of the timetable, exam centres, personnel and supervision – all ran very smoothly – like clockwork. Marking and the completion of reports will be next on the agenda but all will be completed before the end of Term – Team work at its best!

Congratulations to Shayne Ferrity in Year 12 who won 1st place in the Banjo (15 – 18 years) competition of Fleadh Tír Eoghain. A great achievement. Good Luck Shayne in the Fleadh Uladh in July.

Check out our Facebook as well to hear a most beautiful rendition of ‘The Mountains of Pomeroy’ by Post 16 student Ciara Hagan. Breathtaking! What a voice!

With 189 new Year 8 pupils due to join the College in September, we held 2 x Transition Induction afternoons for the class of 2029! Why, I hear you ask? Well after completing 7 years at the College, they will leave with their heads held high and a quality education consisting of GCSE and A Level qualifications but also as well-rounded people with great confidence and self-worth.

A huge thanks to Mrs Monaghan and Mr O’ Donnell who helped to set the scene for September and put everyone at ease. The move to Post Primary School can be exciting but also perhaps, a little daunting, and we need to ensure that the transition process is as smooth as possible. I highly recommend boys and girls, that you attend the Transition Summer Scheme which runs from 15th – 19th August. Information on the Scheme will be forwarded as soon as possible.

With Exams over, Year 10 visited the Ritz Cinema for ‘Jurassic Park’. A great morning was had by all.

I was delighted to see so many of our Year 13 students participate in Interviews for positions associated with Senior Prefects for 2022 – 2023. The students were very articulate, spoke passionately about their role and the importance of pupil voice within the College – very competitive. We await the outcome of the Interviews next week.

That’s all for now!
